The 2023 - 2024 Seclusion and Restraint Report was presented as required by statute to the Stanley-Boyd School Board at the regular July meeting.
Seclusion and restraint rules are outlined in 2019 Wisconsin Act 118, which revised Wisconsin state law on addressing the use of seclusion and restraint in schools, going into effect as of March 4, 2020.
Defined in the law, seclusion refers to, “the involuntary confinement of a student, apart from other students, in a room or area from which the student is physically prevented from leaving.” Physical restraint in contrast is defined as, “a restriction that immobilizes or reduces the ability of a student to freely move his/her torso, arms, legs, or head.”
With this in mind there were nine seclusions involving three students at Stanley-Boyd within the 2023-2024 school, all involving students with disabilities.
As for restraints there were 16, involving four students, all four of which were students with disabilities.
