Madison – Senator Jesse James (R- Altoona) released the following statement regarding his first official floor votes in the Wisconsin State Senate: “Today I voted “YES” on SJR 2 and 4, both important resolutions for the people of Wisconsin,” James commented.
Concerning 2023 Senate Joint Resolution 2, James said, “First, I believe it is important to give our judges the ability to look at the totality of the circumstances when setting bail. This constitutional amendment is about keeping the public safe. It is ridiculous that Wisconsin is the only state to consider a single factor when setting cash bail. This requirement needs to be changed so that events like the Waukesha Parade tragedy do not occur in our state.” James continued, “I also was glad to see the passage of SJR 4, which asks the public whether able-bodied, childless adults should be required to look for work in order to receive welfare. We are all aware of the workforce shortage in this state, impacting all occupations. I think it is important to take this to the people. A recent Marquette University Law School poll showed 79% of Wisconsin voters favored a work requirement for welfare.[1] It’s time we get Wisconsinites back to work.” James concluded, “I’m looking forward to more votes like these on the Senate floor that will help keep our public safe and productive. Wisconsin will benefit from these decisions.”
