Opportunity announced for graduating seniors
Stanley-Boyd Schools marked Veteran’s Day Nov. 11, and included in the ceremony was an announcement for graduating seniors: those who had committed by signing papers could wear special cords at graduation denoting this. As of the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, six seniors have signed papers of intent.
As to the gathering Nov. 11, it started with a luncheon to honor veterans at 11 a.m., followed with elementary presentations from Noon to 1:40 p.m. Gathering in the gym at 2 p.m., grades 5 through 12 took part in the main event.
Starting with a color guard, the ceremonies proceeded to the Pledge of Allegiance, welcome from high school MCs Janelle Schesel and Emme Felmlee, recognition of the five military branches by teacher Robert Seidl, and a slideshow of area military personnel, both active and retired.
Following the slideshow, the high school choir performed the Star Spangled Banner under director Louella Derrico. After this, the middle school gave poetry presentations on the meaning of Veterans’ Day and of service.
This being done, 33-year-veteran Bruce Wozniak led those veterans present in a reaffirmation of their military service oath.
Following the reaffirmation of service oaths it was on to the playing of Taps, followed with retiring of the flags and dismissal of students to return to classrooms.
