Members of the Stanley Boyd National Honor Society (NHS), along with their advisor Mrs. Halterman, have been honored with the December High Five Award for their continued efforts to spread holiday cheer at Chapman Park. Over the past few years, the park’s holiday light display has grown significantly, bringing immense joy to the community. The display features festive photo opportunities and a Memorial Tree, offering something special for all who visit.
Nominated by a local resident who shared, “My children love driving through the park each year—it has become part of our holiday traditions!” the NHS members and Mrs. Halterman have helped create a beloved annual event. When Mrs. Halterman was asked what she thinks about the students commitment to this project, she said “For the members of the Oriole Chapter of the NHS, decorating the park with Christmas lights goes beyond simple decorations. It’s about bringing the community together by fostering holiday spirit and creating a welcoming space during the season.” The light display is illuminated after Thanksgiving and remains on every evening through the Christmas season.
Donation boxes are available on-site for those who wish to contribute financially, ensuring that this magical tradition can continue for many years to come. Funds from those boxes are collected by the NHS. The Stanley Community Association (SCA), along with Martino’s Restaurant, extends a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Halterman and the NHS members for their dedication to the Chapman Park Campground Light Display, which truly adds magic to the holiday season.
The SCA would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Polly Hoffman, former NHS Advisor, for her many years of dedicated service in coordinating the Chapman Park lighting displays.
The SCA also invites community members to nominate deserving individuals for the High Five Award. Nomination forms are available on the SCA website. Award recipients receive a certificate and a gift card to Martino’s Restaurant.
