Following a recommendation from CBS Squared, the Stanley City Council awarded the bid for the Maple Street Reconstruction Project to Haas Sons, Inc. for a total of $3,776,669.37 during Monday night’s meeting on April 7th. Mayor Mike Henke outlined the scope of the project, noting, “This is doing Maple Street from just past Urquhart track to Helgerson, doing Helgersen north of Maple Street to the start of the Historical Society and doing McKnight from Maple to Church and doing Church to Helgerson to the water tower.”
“Do they have an anticipated start date?” questioned Alderperson Mark Fitzsimmons.
“I haven’t seen, no,” Henke responded indicating that the schedule is still to be determined.
The Council approved the purchase of a sewer camera for the Wastewater Department for $9,584.00 from RNOW, Inc. Henke commented that the sewer camera will come in handy to look around pipes and now they won’t have to pay someone to do it.
“We’d have multipurpose uses for it,” he added.
Alderperson Jacob Huff agreed, “It would pay for itself.”
“Yeah, by far,” Henke agreed.
The Council also approved the Street Department’s purchase of a new flail mower from Swiderski Equipment for $11,995, with a trade-in value of $10,995 for the City’s existing Woods BW1800 mower—bringing the total cost to just $1,000. Mayor Henke noted that the current mower has been in use for several years, making the trade-in a worthwhile deal for the City.
“We’re probably getting more than we paid for it,” he admitted.
After reconvening into open session, the Council voted to update the and to approve the employment of Travis Kramschuster and Tim Zimmerman to the Stanley Fire Department. Josh Walters was also approved to be employed at the Fire Department after he completes the necessary training. The Council also approved updating the developer agreement with Stanley Truck Sales to be extended to July 1, 2025.
As the meeting came to a close, Mayor Mike Henke recognized Alderperson Jacob Huff’s final meeting, shaking his hand and thanking him for his nine years of dedicated service to the Stanley City Council.
