Members of the Stanley Fire Department attended an eight-hour Ice Water Rescue Class hosted by the Owen-Withee-Curtis Fire District at Owen Mill Pond on Saturday, February 3rd. Twenty-one members of the Stanley Fire Department, Owen-Withee-Curtis Fire District and EMS District, Pittsville Fire Department, and the Thorp Area Fire and Ambulance District attended the class that resulted in members from each department becoming ice water rescue certified, including five members of the Stanley Fire Department.
The Stanley Fire Department is hoping to purchase a new boat for water rescue which is priced from $2,500 to $5,000. As every minute matters in a rescue, Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson explained that a new boat will be faster to deploy since it’s lighter and not as bulky. He added that a lighter boat will help with firefighter fatigue and will aid in quicker rescue times. Hagenson remarked that training makes a good department a great department. “We are all about training. We train as much as we can to give the best service in our area.”
