The Stanley Police Department welcomed a new officer to the department this month. Born and raised in the Stanley-Thorp area, Officer Andrew Straszkowski is well-acquainted with the community and has returned to serve his hometown as a police officer, in addition to his roles as a volunteer firefighter and part-time EMT. Straszkowski’s extensive experience includes an associate’s degree and bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Latin American Studies, training in advanced OWI detection, Crisis Intervention Training for mental health incidents, Interview and Interrogation training, proficiency in the Spanish language, and specialized training from FEMA for Mass Casualty Incidents. With nearly eight years of experience as a police officer, Straszkowski finds great fulfillment in his role. He loves that “every shift brings something new.” He adds, “I also enjoy that when I am out on patrol it can sometimes feel like I am my own boss on the decisions I make.”
In his free time, Straszkowski enjoys camping, snowmobiling, ATV rides and almost anything outdoors. He loves to travel, whether it’s road trips around the US or flying to another country. He recalls living in Costa Rica for a summer in 2013 and describes “how laid back and relaxed it was.”
Straszkowski is eager to connect with the residents of Stanley and Boyd. “I’m looking forward to getting out and talking with people in the community. I’m also interested to see what new things will continually be added to the community,” he mentions. He adds, “The Stanley-Boyd area is a friendly and family-oriented community that is growing at a perfect rate.” The Stanley-Boyd community looks forward to Officer Straszkowski’s leadership and contributions to community safety.
