Other Background Details:
6 years as Deputy Clerk of Courts – Chippewa County, Currently a Paralegal with a law firm in Chippewa Falls
Why Nate Liedl for Clerk of Courts?: I grew up in Chippewa Falls, graduated from Chi-Hi and now own a home in Lake Hallie. I have been a Chippewa County resident my entire life. In January 2013, as part of my Paralegal degree, I began as an unpaid intern with the Chippewa County Clerk of Courts Office. By February I was hired on part-time, graduated in March and promoted to a full-time Deputy Clerk in August of that same year. Throughout my employment until 2019, I worked in almost all of the different areas within the office. I have done the duties and understand firsthand the obstacles, frustrations and stressors Deputy Clerks go through on a daily basis.
With my experience of actually doing these various jobs, I can make the Clerk of Court position a “working clerk” and be someone who is willing & able to fill in during unexpected absences and help during periods of heavy workloads. Additionally, I would ensure the employees have a leader who is always available to them. More than just an “open-door,” my calendar will be made available to co-workers so they can be aware of meetings, appointments, or scheduled time away to allow contact with me at any given moment, rather than be surprised with unavailable leadership.
I will work to change the reputation of the office by increasing customer service and providing more resources with easier to understand guides as well as expanding the knowledge of the deputy clerks. We need to be able to retain the best employees and decrease, or eliminate, the amount of turnover, which will increase efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs to the County. Additional work experience includes finance & collections management, leading & training a team of ten employees in billing & reconciliation and creating workflow handbooks for new & current employees. I developed shortcut keys (macros) for Deputy Clerks when the County switched from paper to electronic filing which helped ease the transition while also limiting clerical errors.
Along with my personal experience working the various departments within the office, I have additional plans and goals for improvements; many of which were presented by the opponent during the 2010 election and still exist today. My dedication to customer service will not only benefit the citizens of Chippewa County, but also each of the courtrooms, district attorney’s office & other areas impacted by court proceedings, outcomes, and rulings. With the support of several former employees, the determination to improve the needs of the office and the willingness to prioritize employee’s success ahead of my own, I feel I would be a great leader and would appreciate your vote to be the Chippewa County Clerk of Circuit Court.
