Hello everyone and welcome to our August library column! The library board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5PM in the lower level of the library. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. If you’re unable to make it to the meeting you can find all the latest news and updates that I share with the library board each month here.
The library’s summer program is almost over! We’re celebrating with ice cream this week, August 11th, from 2-4PM at the library. Stop by for a cone and don’t forget to submit your reading times at stanleylibrary.beanstack. org by is this Saturday, August 13th. Camp Read S’more is wrapping up their program as well, so be sure to stop by their bookmobile and return any of their books you checked out this summer.
The library is hosting a local author visit this month on August 24th at 2PM! Nancy Radcliue will talk about her book, This is Eden, a semi-biographical novel drawing from the author’s own family history in the Stanley/Boyd area. There will also be time for a Q& A.
Other programs coming up include Creative Writing Guild on the 16th and 30th, and Teen Writers Guild on the 25th. Storytime is August 18th and September 1st. The book club is currently reading The Hiding Place and is planning to meet on September 1th. Check out our website, or pick up a calendar from the library, for the full details on current programs.
August’s library fact is taken from our 2021 magazine circulation statistics. Last year the library ouered 34 magazine subscriptions for patrons to check out. Of these subscriptions,
People was the most popular, with 102 total checkouts and renewals. The total circulation for all of our magazines last year was 580. In addition to that number, we do not record the many times patrons stop by the library to read a magazine without checking it out. Similarly, people often visit the library to read the paper, however, we do not have circulation data for our newspapers because they are not available for check-out.
As many of you already know, Cheryl Kern-Simirenko passed away recently. A Stanley resident for many years, Cheryl was a delightfully knowledgeable and dedicated library advocate who gave back to Stanley community in countless ways. She served on the library board for many years and volunteered tirelessly for the Stanley Area Historical Society. I am personally so grateful to Cheryl for her wisdom and support in the short period I got to work with her during her time on the library board. The library and community has lost a wonderful friend and advocate in Cheryl and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The library is open for you Monday through Friday from 10AM-6PM. Come in any time to use the computers, find a book or movie, borrow a Wi-Fi hotspot or iPad, or use our printer to fax, scan, and copy. We are also ouering curbside pick-up to those who wish to use that option and home delivery for the elderly and home-bound. Please note the library will be closed Monday, September 5th for the holiday. Thank you for your support and see you soon!
