Thorp Aquatic Center Kicks Off Summer Season with Upgrades and Exciting Events

Posted

Thorp’s outdoor swimming facility is making a splash this summer—complete with new amenities, expanded programming, and improved policies to better serve the community.
Located at 300 S. Conway Street, the Thorp Aquatic Center draws rave reviews for its family-friendly layout, including a 205,000 gallon pool, zero entry wading area, water mushroom and jets, a 155foot water slide, diving board, and basketball hoop. The pool is open daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is budget-friendly at just $5 per person daily, with season pass options for residents and non-residents, making it an affordable summer staple.
This year’s concessions menu offers a variety of crowd-pleasers, including $3 soft pretzels (cheese or cinnamon sugar), $3 Dilly Bars in chocolate, butterscotch, or cherry, $1 pickles, $4 pizzas, $3 nachos with cheese, and $3 hot dogs. New this season, poolgoers can also cool off with refreshing Bubblr drinks for $3.
The Thorp Tourism and Chamber of Commerce generously donated several Adirondack chairs, complementing the new lounge chairs purchased by the City of Thorp—providing comfortable relaxation zones around the pool deck.
The Aquatic Center will host a variety of themed events this season designed to engage teens and families alike:
• Teen Nights throughout the summer, like the one held on July 2nd where the turnout was off the deep end with over 100 teens in attendance.
• A brand new Aqua Zumba class, blending fun water exercise with music
• Returning favorites like Cowabunga Night and an end-of-summer bash.
The Aquatic Center is staffed by 21 dedicated employees this season, ensuring smooth operations and safety. Significant updates have been made to the facility’s closing policies, with information readily available for families planning their pool visits. Families are encouraged to check for updates—especially this year, as persistent rainy weather has caused several temporary closures. Thorp Aquatic Center Manager Jacob Barth shared the updates to the closing policies.
Cool Weather: The facility will remain closed if temperatures are 63°F or below with overcast skies. However, if it’s 63°F and sunny, the pool will open.
Low Attendance: If attendance drops to 10 or fewer patrons for at least one hour, management may reduce staffing, close non-essential areas such as the slide or concession stand, or fully close the pool if low numbers persist.
Stormy Weather: In the event of lightning or thunder, all swimmers must exit the pool for at least 30 minutes after the last strike. Continued severe weather may result in the pool closing for the rest of the day.
Maintenance Closures: Temporary closures may also occur if repairs or maintenance are required. Staff will work to resolve any issues as quickly as possible to resume operations.
Looking for a private space for your group? The cabana remains available for rent at $75 per day, with bookings handled through Thorp City Hall. Cabana renters may bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages.
