The Town of Thorp Board members were busy at the Nov. 8 meeting as they held three separate meetings back-to-back. Supervisor Andy Slowiak was absent as they first began the Public Budget Hearing meeting on the proposed budget.

The revenue budget for 2023 was $384,330 and is proposed to be $480,819 for 2024.

“We are getting $44,000 more from the state, so that’s a good thing,” Chairman Jerry Jacks commented and added that it would be added next year.

“Shared revenue,” Supervisor Bob Kodl added.

Then the Special Town Meeting of the Electors to approve the town tax levy began with minimal attendance from town residents. Louie Andruszkiewicz motioned to approve the levy of $129,809.00 and the motion passed unanimously.

As the regular Wednesday meeting began, Denis Hansen, landowner in the Town of Thorp, addressed the board to request that McGrogan Road be vacated. In August 2000, the Town of Thorp Town Board approved a plat of McGrogan Draw Condominiums with a plan for homes to be built along McGrogan Creek but as time went on, no homes were built, and the land was sold. Hansen, who owns twelve acres, is willing to give the farmer that is landlocked there an easement so he can get to his fields. The road is listed as a public road and the town doesn’t receive any transportation aid for it.   Kodl, in agreement with Hansen, motioned to vacate McGrogan Road, stating that it is in the town’s best interest to vacate the road and for Hansen to give an easement to the landlocked farmer. The motion passed unanimously.

Board members for the Town of Thorp approved the contract for Henry Berry of Ratsch Engineering to build the new town shop and town hall. Berry discussed preliminary building plans and logistics with the Town of Thorp Town Board at the lengthy meeting.
