Town of Thorp discusses bridge repair at monthly board meeting

Posted

On Tuesday, February 28th, board members from the Town of Thorp finished the month with their monthly meeting. Board members present were Chairman Andy Slowiak, 1st Supervisor, Jerry Jacks, Treasurer, Rita Derks and Clerk, Arlene Kodl. 2nd Supervisor, Jack Leja was absent. Louis Andruszkiewicz, who stepped down as chairman, was also in attendance.  They began to an empty town hall as they discussed the bids for the bridge repair northwest of the city of Thorp, 6/10 of a mile off Hwy 73 west. A state grant is being pursued for the bridge repair.  As the board members deliberated over the proposals, many discussions broke out to determine which company was the right choice.  Jerry Jacks motioned to submit Ayers as the top pick, SEH, a close second and Westbrook would take 3rd place. Andy Slowiak seconded the motion, and the motion was passed.

Also on the agenda was the discussion of reapplying for a state grant for 2 ½ miles of road work.  Deciding which road to submit for the proposal was tough as many of the town roads are in need of repair.  Louis Andruszkiewicz, former chairman, put in his two cents, advising the board members to choose a high traffic road. “This has to be put in by the state so that road is going to be a good road. With the state you have to use state specifications. That means that you want to put it someplace where you have a lot of traffic and people are going to use it.” Jerry Jacks motioned to recommend Fernwal Avenue, Andy Slowiak seconded it and the motion was passed.  The next meeting is scheduled for March 14th at 7pm.
