A special meeting on April 25 was held at the current town hall by the Town of Thorp board members after the surprising resignation of former Chairman Jerry Jacks. After the board accepted the resignation of Jacks as of April 20th, Clerk Arlene Kodl nominated former Town of Thorp Chairman Louie Andruszkiewicz to the position of Chairman for the remainder of Jacks’s term until April 2025 and Supervisors Andy Slowiak and Bob Kodl voted in agreement. Andruszkiewicz had previously served as the Chairman for the Town of Thorp from 2015 to 2022. Andruszkiewicz accepted the nomination and stood, raising his right hand as he was sworn in to his “new” position.
Wasting no time, Andruszkiewicz took his seat and quickly got to work guiding the board members to choose an attorney for the town. Clerk Kodl remarked that the Town of Thorp needs an attorney and Jake Brunette, an attorney in Clark County, is an option with good history and experience providing legal advice to many county departments and governing bodies. Andruszkiewicz mentioned that it is important for the township to have an attorney in case anything comes up “down the line” and added that Brunette is the attorney for the Town of Worden.
“If we got a problem in the town, we don’t have nothing to fall (on),” agreed Kodl. “I think we should move ahead with it,” Andruskiewicz stated.
After quick discussion, the board voted to move forward with making Brunette the town attorney.
Moving on, the board discussed the future of the new town hall and shop construction project. At the last meeting, after heated discussion, the board chose to reject all bids.
“All this bickering going on, we were getting nowhere,” Kodl remarked. “(It was) the best thing to reject them all and start over.”
After talking about the landscaping and dimensions of the future building, Andruskiewicz and Kodl and Slowiak voted to move forward with the building project by having Andruskiewicz contact Jake Brunette about the town’s options and to review the current bid specifications and then to contact Henry Berry with Ratsch Engineering with changes to the bid specifications.
As the meeting drew to a close, Kodl announced. “I got one thing I got to bring up and it can’t wait for the town meeting. The town truck is down again.”
“Air tank sprung a leak,” he added. “It’s going the third of May and will be gone for a week.” Kodl guessed that it won’t be back until the 13th of May.
