Chairman Michael Boehlke officially called his first meeting to order as an elected official on April 9th for the Town of Thorp’s monthly meeting—held for the first time at the newly constructed town hall on Center Road. Stepping into the role with gratitude, Boehlke thanked the many residents in attendance and assured them that he’s committed to open communication and community involvement.
“I’m always open to listen to people and try to make things right,” Boehlke shared, encouraging residents to reach out with any concerns or questions.
A large crowd gathered at the Wednesday evening meeting with every seat filled as residents came together to show their appreciation and support for Treasurer Rita Derks, who was attending her final meeting after 35 years of dedicated service. Derks, who chose not to seek reelection, was met with congratulations and thanks for her decades of commitment to the township. Her presence has been a steady and reliable force in local government, and her departure marks the end of an era for the Town of Thorp. Derks received a plaque from the Town of Thorp and a certificate of recognition from the Wisconsin Town’s Association.
“I’m sure everybody in the township really appreciates it,” said Chairman Boehlke of her service.
Also in attendance was newly elected Treasurer Michele Pogodonski, who offered her well wishes to Derks and will attend her first meeting as Treasurer at the May meeting. Meanwhile, newly elected 2nd Supervisor Louie Andruskewicz, who previously served as Town Chairman before stepping down, was absent from the meeting. Andruskewicz had run for the open 2nd Supervisor seat in the April 1st election, receiving 182 votes despite publicly stating he did not intend to accept the position if elected. However, after the election, he decided to “stay on for a bit.”
During the meeting, the Town of Thorp Board entered into a closed session to review applications for a town employee position. Upon returning to open session, the Town of Thorp board unanimously voted to hire former employee Jerry Nowolbieski for the role.
Nowolbieski will return to the town staff as a full-time employee, with a 40-hour work week at a rate of $30.00 per hour.
