The Town of Thorp Board held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 13 and reappointed the Town Election Inspectors for the 2024-2025 term. The inspectors are Barb Rice, Gloria Steivang, Julie Derks, Darlene Bourget, Ann Lasevich, Bob Lasevich, and Charlotte Rollins. The Board also approved an increase in pay of $3 per hour with election inspectors receiving $15 per hour instead of the previous $12 per hour and the chief inspector receiving $17 per hour instead of the previous $14. “My first job was $2 an hour,” Chairman Jerry Jacks commented adding that was 50 years ago.
The board discussed the future construction of the new town hall and garage that now has an official fire address of W10507 Center Road in Thorp. Henry Berry of Ratsch Engineering was present to answer questions regarding the future plans and to make any needed changes. After a motion by Supervisor Andy Slowiak, the board voted to “go with the better siding and roofing” to include board and batten. Berry hopes to have bids begin in January with a potential construction start date of June.
The Town of Thorp received a bill of $2,926 for the new repairs of the town truck. In April of this year, the truck was in need of repairs, so it was taken to Mid-State Truck Service, Inc. where the repairs totaled $37,379.27. Recently, the engine light came back on, and the current repairs completed by Mid-State were to replace the seals on oil manifold, install three new injectors, install an oil manifold, valve cover and pre cooler, install air pipes and coolant, bleed the fuel system and reset the injector CEOM.
“Jerry said it runs good now,” Jacks commented referring to Jerry Nowolbieski, the head of the Public Works Department.
“So far,” Nowolbieski said crossing his fingers.
The next Town of Thorp Board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10 at 6:30 pm.
