Augusta’s popular restaurant, Tugger’s Cafe and Sweet Shop, was lost in a fire on Sunday, June 27. Fire fighters and first responders on the scene were served bottled water and sandwiches throughout the heat and humidity of the day. Local efforts are taking place to collect food and clothing for the apartment renters who lived above the restaurant. This is the third eatery in the area to burn down this year – first was the rural Augusta Black Bear Supper Club and next was the Chicken Chaser Bar and Grill in Fall Creek.

Trempealeau County Times

April 2, 1976 marked 45 years since the Arcadia Lioness Club was chartered as the first Lioness group in the United States, and as of June 30, they were the last such club remaining. That ends soon, as Lions International decided to disband all Lioness Clubs, a move that became official July 1. +++ TS Banking Group has entered into an agreement with B& E Investments, Inc. to acquire the State Bank of Arcadia, with banking assets of $210 million.

Christine Jumbeck, who taught agriculture and served as FFA advisor at Cochrane-Fountain City for 33 years, received a special tractor as a retirement gift. Community members chipped in to buy the tractor, and two of her senior students and FFA members, spent 500 hours working on the the tractor to get it in prime condition to send their teacher off to retirement in style.+++ La Crosse native, Garrett Martin has been named the new city administrator by the Mondovi City Council.

The Black River Falls School Board received a report on COVID in the district during the 2020-21 school year. Over the course of the year, 1,554 students and 219 staff were quarantined. There were 135 positive students and 59 positive staff cases. That was approximately 8% of the students and about 20% of the staff.
