Going, going, gone!—but not, it would seem, to the City of Stanley.
Just days after the Common Council approved an $11,000 bid ceiling on a used brush truck from the City of Waukesha at its July 6 meeting, the same sold for $310 more dollars than had been approved by the Council—take the gloves off, let people bid as they choose, and that can happen.
Had the free market and/or auction wars not intervened, the brush truck from Waukesha (complete with foam to smother fires) was to have replaced an aging brush truck now owned by the Stanley Fire Department, though it was revealed at the July 6 meeting by Fire Chief Hagenson that the old truck was less than trustworthy. Mention was made of a “diesel trail” if followed on the road, meaning that the next opportunity that comes along, could potentially need some more flexibility.
In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled—there’s no telling what might come about. As we heard from a recent Boyd village board meeting about a street sweeper: “these things come around.”
That auction, ended Tuesday, the sweeper found just days before.
No bid was entered in that case.
