Looking to get itself in line with new state standards, the Stanley municipal court was to to consider consolidation with Thorp. Among the details is that the court be considered a separate part of the city and allowed to develop its’ own budget. Tenth District Court Administrator Scott Johnson laid things out, saying that that state move was “basically to professionalize our municipal courts and address some longstanding concerns.”
Coming in the police record, meanwhile, was a call for loud music at 212 Lincoln Street. Responding to the call, officers came up with a new finding: no such address in the city. “The area was checked, but no music was heard.”
Down at the high school, Grease was the play to watch, with Rydell High a nostalgic place for many.

Becky Allen earns regional medalist honors in Oriole ladies golf with a score of 80 at the WIAA Barron Regional. Alison Knar comes in at 103, with Lindsey Hendrickson making 106. Laura Backhaus shoots a score of 108, while Leslie Bourget gets 110 after coming away with 48 for the front nine and 62 on the back nine.
“I believe our team will be much better at sectionals and it is always possible that we’ll surprise some teams,” Coach Jerry Allen says.

“According to U. S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, the state’s violent crime rate (violent crime per 100,000 population) fell from 264.7 in 1990 to 236.8 in 2000. The property crime rate went from 4,130.4 to 2,972.3. In 2000, Wisconsin’s violent crime rate was 53% below the U.S. average, while it property crime rate was 18% below (incarceration up since 1990)…In response to the rapidly-growing population, the legislature authorized the construction of new prisons and ultimately, approved transferring inmates to out-of-state prisons, according to the new released WISTAX report.

Note from Kate: If you have hard water, it’s a wise idea to either rent a water softener or purchase one. Hard water wreaks havoc with water heaters, pipes and appliances, such as dishwashers and water machines.

Our Saviour’s Lutheran presents a Christian drama courtesy of the Covenant Players. The evening was to include several selections by the church choir under Mrs. Reuben Kalk.

JFK makes the front page for signing a bill “to end the federally subsidized drainage of wetlands.” Noted black singer George Mathews to appear at St. John’s Lutheran on High- way H Oct. 23 at 8:15 p.m. for a free music program. The Stanley-Boyd Orioles defeat Colby for the number Remodeling starts at Boyd post office, consisting of a lowered ceiling which will not only reduce noise and make it more pleasant to work at the post office (per expectations), but also lower winter heating costs as well. Annual lutefisk and meat ball supper at St. John’s Luther “at Yellow River” on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Young Jimmy Waldzak of Bay City, Michigan, is pulled aboard the campaign train by General Dwight Eisenhower after following the train for a mile down the tracks. Gilman A. Hanson, former Stanley resident, dies at Madison October 2. The deceased had moved to Stanley with his wife in 1917, and then Madison in 1929. Stanley Loses to McDonnell McDonnell Memorial High School at Chippewa Falls defeated Stanley High under the lights at Chippewa, Saturday night. The Mc-Donnells swept over the goal line twice in the first quarter and then were on the defensive for the remainder of the game. Baker did fine work for Stanley, scoring a touchdown in the second quarter. Fourteen year old Shirley Bargery of Minneapolis, saved the life of seven year old Lou Thorne by applying a tourniquet to her leg after she had been injured in a motor accident. A party of other attendants were allowing the child to bleed to death while waiting for an ambulance.

A special train was “not unlikely,” meaning people from the area would be able to attend. Talk of enlarging the high school lot at Stanley by purchasing adjoining residential property is made. six spot with a 27 -7 finish.
