Draft ordinance in works to allow dogs at Lotz Park

Change is coming to Lotz Park ball field.
Meeting Monday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m., the Boyd Village Board approved signs approved for the new ballpark fence. Motion to allow signs for Little League from June to August was made by Trustee Josh Walters and seconded by Trustee Michael Eslinger. Included with the motion was a stipulation to take the signs down for special events not related to Little League.
Received with interest meanwhile but still in process as to details, the board heard from former village trustee Sarah McQuillan, who asked about revising village ordinance to remove the “no dogs” signs currently at Lotz Park. Current village trustees reviewed two model ordinances by Stanley and Altoona, with Trustee Dale Isaacs preferring Stanley’s ordinance due to shared police service and Eslinger expressing a preference for Altoona’s. If all goes well a new ordinance specific to Boyd will be drafted for review and approval by next month, allowing man’s best friend to visit the village park legally, without fear of fine or penalty.
Cats are likely still out, however, as language in Altoona’s ordinance allowing them was not favored for inclusion in the new draft ordinance, due for board consideration after being sent to ordinance writer Alan Harvey.
Also in news from Boyd Village Board, the village board voted to approve all Class B combination liquor licenses as well as Class A licenses that were applied for. Motion to approve Class A licenses was made by Walters and seconded by Isaacs, while motion to approve Class B licenses was made by Isaacs and seconded by Walters. Cigarette licenses were approved for 505 East Murray as well as 819 Street, motion by Isaacs seconded by Casey Dorn.
Closing out with the streets report, Boyd Streets and Utilities Head Bob LaMarche reported that three loads of gravel had been placed on Marshall Street, as well on a short stretch of road off Clark Street.
The Boyd Village Board meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Boyd Village Hall. The public is invited.
