The  October 20, quarterly meeting of the Stanley Area Historical Society (SAHS), was highlighted by Secretary, Michele Halterman’s presentation on the updating she has recently done to the SAHS Website.  Her work has included a redesign of the header, adding a footer, changing the background, changing the tabs and content on them, adding  some new images, updating and removing content and more. The Website can be found at  https://www.stanleyareahistoricalsociety.org/.

Treasurer Jim Ericksen, presented third quarter financials and a January 1 to September 30 explanation of the museum income and expenditures. He noted, that a Federal Audit that had been scheduled to begin October 27, has been canceled.  There was no indication as to when, or if, it would be rescheduled.

Digitization work at the museum has been at a stand still since mid-summer.  The need for a volunteer, or two, with computer skills exists.  Some training can be provided.

President Dave Jankoski, thanked all the volunteers for their help in keeping the museum open weekends from June through September. He noted that five individuals did not show and five new volunteers did.  Betty Plombon  is working on a winter work list for any volunteers who show up to help on Tuesday mornings. Another UW- Eau Claire student intern will be sought to help at the museum next summer.  Open hours  in 2026 were discussed and it was decided they will remain the same if enough volunteers are available to serve as docents. Jankoski also reported that the students in Jordan Donnerbauer’s landscaping class have been working cutting back the bushes and flowers, preparing for new plantings next spring, cleaning out old mulch that will be replaced next spring, and relaid some of the blocks that have gotten misshaped from 40 plus years of freezing and thawing, that the museum has been located on Helgerson Street.  It was announced that a new lawn caretaker and snow removal person has been hired.  Ericksen has been installing additional shelving, that is allowing for a rearrangement and storage of additional donated artifacts.

Betty Plombon reported that the wedding dresses on display the past several years have been taken down and there are plans for additional dresses in the museum collections to replace them. Many exhibits have been refreshed with additions, and a new exhibit of museum dolls has been placed in the meeting room. Volunteer carpenters Tim Troyer and Jim Jones will be returning to build some additional exhibit shelving and will be replacing the trim boards around the flag pole flower bed. One more 2025 program remains. On Sunday, October  26, Plombon will introduce her new book , “Only In Stanley, Wisconsin,” and she will be followed by a new Silent Reading Group.

In announcements, it was noted that the Semi-Annual Meeting of the Clark County Historical Society will be hosted by the Thorp Area Historical Society on Saturday, November 1 at the Thorp Public Library.  The gathering begins with a potluck meal at noon and the meeting to follow will be discussing the development of a museum marketing piece that can be put on the Clark County Economic Development & Tourism Bureau website. It was also announced that the Annual SAHS meeting will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, with a potluck meal at noon and the meeting to start at approximately 12:45 p.m.
