Donate Blood Severe winter weather throughout much of the United States has caused the cancellation of more than 14,000 blood and platelet donations since the beginning of January. The Red Cross has not seen the blood supply drop this dramatically in nearly a decade and it needs to be reversed. Maintaining sufficient blood to meet patient needs is a delicate balance between supply and demand. When severe weather disrupts that balance, the Red Cross puts out a call to potential blood donors across the country to rally around this cause and make an appointment to give blood as soon as possible and make up the deficit.
The next Stanley-Boyd Red Cross blood drive will be Thursday, March 24 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Everyone 17 years or older who are in good health are urged to please take the time on March 24 and donate blood to help replenish the blood supply and to ensure that blood continues to be available for patients with serious medical needs. Blood is perishable and has no substitute. Red blood cells have a shelf life of only 42 days and platelets (a shelf life of) just 5 day – they must be replenished constantly. There is an urgent need for donors and someone is counting on you to donate blood on March 24. If you would like to make an appointment, to donate blood, please call Donella Christianson (or go to redcross.org to set up an appointment at your convenience through a regional donation center. The time-saving “Rapid Pass” donation app is available at the App Store for free. Just click “Get” and then enter your Apple ID password to install. Three main blood types exist in A,B, O, with two Rh factors, + or – , and a host of other reasons—including family and personal needs— why your specific contribution is needed to ensure a blood supply that is both safe and adequate year round.) Local crime report 5:10 p.m.

Ugly or…Beautiful? It all depends on whether or not you are a lobster lover. To those who enjoy this succulent fruit of the sea, a lobster is a thing of beauty. To others, it seems incredibly ugly. Beauty is “in the eye of the beholder,” but, contrary to another old saying, it is not skin deep. True beauty often can’t be seen at all. It is something you feel, something of which you are aware, not necessarily seen. Beauty, for instance, surrounds you when you walk into God’s house. There is something in the atmosphere that you can’t quite define. No matter what’s been happening to you…(message continues). March 5, 1981 President’s “Sweet Tooth” Gives Production Boost To Local Company An article that appeared in the February 23rd issue of People Magazine caught the eye of both employees and management of the Stanwoood Corporation. For many, many years, the Stanwood Corp. has been one of the major suppliers of candy boxes for the candy manufacturers. No these are not the boxes you get candy in when you buy it in the store, but the boxes the candy is manufactured in.
Since the election of President Reagan, who as we all know has a sweet tooth for jelly beans, the sale of jelly beans has sky-rocketed. There are two major manufacturing places of jelly beans in this country. Herman Goelitz, Inc., of Oakland, Calif, and they also have a second plant in Chicago. The Stanwood Corp. has for many years been supplying boxes for Goelitz’s companies and when a picture appeared with the present manager of the family founded corporation, Herman Goelitz Rowland, surrounded by jelly beans in boxes manufactured here, local people noticed. Our local company has one production line presently working on the boxes and averages 600 boxes per day (story continues)… WANT ADS: Feed & Seed FOR SALE: Baled Hay. Delivered 350 bales per load.
