Richard C. “Rick” Gentz, 62, of Stanley, died on Monday, May 16, 2022 at his home under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born on December 12, 1959 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the late Carlton and Rosemary (Lorigan) Gentz. Rick married the love of his life, Karen Zimny, on January 17, 1981.

Rick grew up and attended schools in the Kenosha area. He graduated from Gateway Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Police Science. He was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for 24 years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He retired in 2011.

In addition to hunting and fishing year-round, Rick loved to go boating, camping, walking/ scouting the woods, and playing with his dog, Cinder. However, at the end of his life, he said that time spent with family was the only thing that really mattered.

Rick is survived by his wife, Karen, his daughter, April Gentz, his son, Richard Gentz, his sisters, Karen Crane, Theresa Waldow, Donna Roemer, Joan Breen, and his brothers, David, Paul, and Bill Gentz. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John and Barb Gentz.

A funeral service will be at 1PM on Saturday, May 21 at the Plombon Funeral Home-Stanley. Visitation will be from 11AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to please make a donation in Rick’s name to Empowered Dream Hunts (Mosinee, Wisconsin), Pine Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce (Kyle, South Dakota), or the Clark County Humane Society (Neillsville, Wisconsin).
