The Orioles Cross Country team competed at Subsectionals on October 20th at Frey Field in Spencer. The event featured 9 teams with the top two team and top 5 individuals not already on those teams qualifying for the Sectional Final on Saturday, October 24th in Westby. Missing some of their top runners, the Orioles boys would finish 8th as a team, but freshman standout Lukas Milas would qualify for the Sectional Final as an individual placing 11th in 18:26. Senior Travis Christoph would finish his high school cross country career with a time of 20:07 in 30th position. Sophomores Joseph Henderson and Dale Sayles would be next with times of 23:33 and 25:23 respectively. Freshman Zack Boes would finish his first varsity race in 27:08 and Sophomore Nathan Gully would finish despite an injury right behind on 27:09.
The girls did not have a full team this season but Alexa Liszewski and Janelle Schesel did well as individuals. First year runner Liszewski would improve upon her personal best to finish the 5K in 23:54 earning 29th place. Schesel would earn one of the individual qualifying spots with a 7th place finish in 21:28. 'Both girls showed great improvement all season long. With some freshmen coming in next year I hope the girls get a chance to compete as a full team next season' Coach Mahr said.
Janelle Schesel and Lukas Milas would then compete at the Sectional Final in Westby. Despite solid performances on a hilly course, neither would earn a qualifying spot for the State Meet. Schesel would finish 13th in the girl's race in 21:43. Milas finished 29th in the boy's race in 18:52.
