2024 Alumni Basketball Tournament sees Class of 2017 victorious

Posted

Taking place Friday and Saturday of last week, the 2024 Stanley-Boyd Alumni Tournament saw the Class of 2017 come out on top when the buzzer sounded, a final score of 66 - 50 sealing the deal for the champions.
From the start it was a hard fought match, the Class of 2017 with seven players faced off with the somewhat younger Class of 2022, composed in itself of Brady Potaczek, Cooper Nichols, Carsen Hause, Mike Karlen, Garrett Sonnentag, and Lukas Smith.
With Seth Hause winner of the Three Point competition, tip off for the championship was by Dakota Nichols, Potaczek tipped the ball in favor of the Class of 2022, before a turnover and resurgence by the Class of 2017 saw the ball change hands as they scored the first points.
This was quickly turned around, however, as 2022 answered with points of its own, bringing the score 8-8 with 16 minutes left in the first half.
Retaking the lead and then gaining, the Class of 2017 gained ground, to reach 21-13 with under nine minutes in the first half, before a resurgence from the Class of 2022 shrank this lead to just two points, the score at the half 33 - 31 in the Class of 2017’s favor.
Coming back after the intermission, game play saw 2017 rebuild its lead, the dwindling clock closing out opportunities to close the gap again—at least until next year.
