A steering committee of approximately 55 members has completed a Granton School District strategic plan, which outlines objectives, goals and priorities to guide the district into the future. One of the outcomes was the new mission statement, which is painted near the high school office: Excellence, Innovation, Inspiration; Every day. Every Way. +++ A Highground capital campaign, to raise $2.5 million for a new welcome center, is off to a good start. Prior to an April 8 kick-off event, $834,374 had been raised for the proposed 12,000 sq. ft. facility. +++ Greenwood’s End of Summer Fest, usually held the second Saturday in September, will be expanded to include Friday night events.

On Wednesday, April 7, the Black Bear Supper Club, north of Augusta was totally destroyed by fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. +++ Change is coming to the Osseo City Council as Mayor Tom Twesme was defeated in his bid for re-election by Josh Pettis who defeated Twesme by a vote of 264-207. +++ Having had enough continual complaints, the Osseo City Council revoked Cody Knuth’s Conditional Use Permit to do metal recycling in the city.
Trempealeau County Times
Arcadia, Independence, Blair-Taylor and Whitehall, who make up the four school co-op known as the Trempealeau Valley Cooperative, will continue their relationship for the 2021-2022 school year. The cooperative allows students to take classes in another school if their district doesn’t offer a course or an advanced class. +++ The City of Arcadia will be receiving a $14.6 million state grant to help fund flood control projects and the city council will be deciding next month how best to borrow $3 million for the city’s share of the flood work. The grant money will be from the state Department of Natural Resources. +++ Trempealeau County is beginning their new justice center project. First up will be the demolition of what’s left of the former Whitehall School and city hall building. The contract was won by local contractor, Post D Excavating of Arcadia, who bid $83,180, just narrowly beating out Haas Incorporated of Thorp, who bid $84,649. +++ The Blair-Taylor School District has begun building a daycare facility that will be attached to the school building.

In a county wide referendum, Buffalo County voters backed “Fair Maps” for legislative and congressional districts by a vote of 1,306 for and 562 opposed.
