Four-week series of talks will be viewable online

Contained in the parish bulletin of All Saints as delivered to this office for November 15, is the news that All Saints Catholic Parish of Stanley, Boyd and Cadott will be holding a four-week long series of talks from December 2nd thru December 23, each by a different speaker from within the diocese. The talks will be at St. Joseph Church in Boyd on Wednesdays each week at 6:30 p.m. or viewable online at diolc.org/advent, with registration available through the parish office at 715-644-5435.

The series talks, which will be given in four presentations, are set to be from 30 to 40 minutes long with discussion questions provided. The purpose of the parish Advent mission is to bring local parishioners together to prepare for Christmas and to strengthen the community.

Starting out the week of December 2nd, the subject will be “St. Joseph: The Man Selected by God to be Closest to Mary and to Jesus.” St. Joseph is the patron saint of workers, among other designations. St. Jerome as translator of the Vulgate and a writing entitled the Protoevangelium of James, among other sources, state that he was a widower with several grown children and that the “brothers” of Jesus referred to in Scripture were from this earlier marriage. The talk on December 2 will be given by priest and Monsignor Joseph Diermeier.

Following the December 2 talk, another talk will be held December 9 by Monsignor Joseph Hirsch, entitled, “Joseph and Mary: a Love Story.” This love was chaste, meaning it was different from worldly and self-interested love. Following the presentation December 9th a third will be held on December 16th, entitled “That Holy Night, through Joseph’s Eyes” by Father Woodrow Pace. Finally in week 4 on December 23, Bishop William Patrick Callahan will give a talk entitled “Joseph, Son of David… You are to give him the name Jesus.” The name “Jesus” in Greek is equivalent to the English “Joshua,” taken from Hebrew of which a notable bearer was Moses’ successor, who led Israel into the Promised Land. Once again, registration is available by calling 715-644-5435.
