The Stanley-Boyd Alumni Association’s, Board of Directors held a meeting on Tuesday, November 1, at the Stanley Area Historical Society. President Ken Seufzer called the meeting to order at 6 pm. He began by welcoming new Board Member Louie Eslinger (Class of 1990), thanking outgoing Board Members Tess Poulter Burlingame and Carole Henkins Licht who were attending their last meeting and announced that Board Member Don Zais was unable to attend as his daughter Amy, who has been battling cancer, had passed. Attendees expressed their sympathy and President Seufzer will send a card of sympathy on behalf of the Board.
Secretary Eileen Stangret Samplawski presented the minutes from the SBAA Annual Meeting held on October 1, and the same day Board Meeting that followed. After approving the secretary’s reports, Treasurer, Rose Wellner Ebert, presented information again showcasing the success of the Annual Reunion. Among the Reunion successes noted were $4,573 as income from the Silent Auction, $4,010 in Scholarship Donations and $1,700 in Memorials. It was noted that the Scholarship Endowment Fund was at $43,227.48 at the end of the third quarter – September 30, 2022.
Kim Witt Nelson and her assistants were acknowledged for holding another very successful Silent Auction Fundraiser for scholarships. Several issues related to the auction payment system were noted and discussed, with a number of solutions were offered and will become a part of the auction in 2023. The success of the auction will again allow SBAA to present three $1,500 scholarships to the Class of 2023 graduates. It is noted that the SilentAuction, Memorial Program and Scholarship Donations are critical components of SBAA’s ability to remain viable as an organization and to fulfill its Mission Statement " to strengthen and support the educational and scholarship activities of Stanley-Boyd High School and promote the ideals and programs of America, free, public education.” All auction contributors and the Auction Committee were thanked for their work and commitment to this fundraiser.
In reports, Barbara Endvick Johnson and Jean Geist Rygiel noted the number of mailings that again returned as they could not be delivered as addressed. Most of the returned names have been removed from the mailing list and will not be getting an invite in 2023. Any Stanley-Boyd graduate not getting an invite, or has moved, can update their address by sending their new address to SBAA, PO Box 162, Stanley, WI 54768. Diane Herrick Meyer and Alvina Hera Depa were acknowledged for their continued work with memorial candles on each table.
It was announced that Jenny Sallis (Class of 1987) will be joining the Board in January and Eileen Strangret Samplawski and Diane La Marche Halterman will be the representatives for the Class of 1963, who will be hosting the 2023 All School Reunion.
Election of officers for 2023 included: Ken Seufzer, Class of 1959, President. Jean Geist Rygiel, Class of 1962, Vice-President. Nancy Hendrickson Shaurette, Class of 1967, Secretary. Rose Wellner Ebert, Class of 1974, Treasurer. Eileen Strangret Samplawski was thanked for her years of service as Secretary of SBAA. She will be helping with the transition to the newly elected secretary.
Planning has begun for the 11th Annual Reunion that will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The school gymnasium has been reserved and there was agreement that food service will again be provided by Boyd Catering. The Board expressed their appreciation for all the support received from administrative, secretarial, janitorial, and teachers, in helping make this annual event successful. The Board is hoping for another good turnout in 2023. In preparation for the 2023 Fiscal Year, Treasurer Ebert presented a proposed budget. The 2023 budget was adopted with several additions and deletions. The budget includes continuing to award three $1,500 scholarships and a $2,000 donation for a school project. Prior to adjournment, President Seufzer went over an informational outline on the SBAA he prepared for new Board Members.
It was announced that the regular meeting dates for 2023 will be on April 25, July 11 and November 7, 2023, with meetings at the Stanley Area Historical Society beginning at 6 p.m.
