Next home games to be played July 9 and July 13, both starting at 5 p.m.

School sports may be over for this spring, but that doesn’t mean America’s past time is over yet.

“I pay attention to the score, but that’s not as much my focus with the kids as getting better at playing the game,” Coach Jeff Whisnant said of Legion Baseball this summer at Oriole Park and away. Playing assistant coach to Ryan Sturm in the regular season, Whisnant is coaching the local Orioles sponsored by Legion Post 326 of Boyd alongside Post 112 of Stanley.

Coach Whisnant said he was asked by Sturm to coach Legion baseball after Sturm helped set things up for this summer. The first game versus Osseo-Fairchild on the 22nd ended with Osseo 10 and Stanley-Boyd 6. Games at Chippewa were rained out, while Chippewa Post 77 came to Oriole Park this past Thursday to best the Orioles in a doubleheader, the first game 7-1` and the second 11-1.

“We played two games against Chippewa,” Whisnant said of Thursday July 1, while the team was scheduled to play at Menomonie on Tuesday July 6 followed by a set of doubleheaders at home, held at Oriole Park this July 9 and July 13, both at 5 p.m. A set of games July 15 at Osseo means there are still six to go as of this issue, while the season was originally scheduled for 14, prior to rainouts at Chippewa. Whatever the season’s outcome, it’s time to play ball!

Spectators are welcome.
