Making its way through the city re- cently, Argonne Timber & Land LLC took down the City's ash trees, a pre emptive measure meant to forestall
eventual collapse and city liability from the Emerald Ash Borer. Now all but complete, the harvest took down trees of several decades growth, making the next step to plant replacements from different species for long-term resto- ration, without the ash borer, that is.

Not all damage comes from the ash borer, as some insects made a home from the heartwood of this ash tree before it fell.Photo by Joseph Back.

Time stamped for 8 a.m. with a carpenter’s square, this ash tree had rings dating it to 1910, or around the time Soo Line Park, was started. Photo by Joseph Back.
