Back in high school, Blaine Brenner was a three-time WIAA state champion.
Now a college junior, he hasn't stopped making wins. Now a redshirt sophmore (college junior) after sitting out some time to develop his skills, Brenner most recently beat Tanner Cook of South Dakota on Nov. 26, the latter ranked 20th in the country, with Brenner ranked 30th.
The 9-6 upset against Cook was followed with a 3-2 record at the Cougar Clash Dec. 2, followed with a 9-0 major decision victory over Brendan Howes of North Dakota State University Dec. 10. Earlier this season, Brenner made 2-1 on an East Coast road trip against Bucknell, Morgan State and George Mason, going on to capture the Bison Open Title for his weight class Nov. 11 with a 3-0 record for the day, after placing sixth in the same event the year before. Nevertheless, Brenner is most proud of his win over Cook Nov. 26.
"My proudest achievement thus far at the university was my first dual against South Dakota State University and getting a ranked win, " Brenner said of winning against the man ranked 20th in the country.
