There will be no gym, at least for now—nor work on the lower grade classrooms in the south of the building. There will be concepts drawings to remodel the area housing third, fourth, and fifth grades along with the lower grade's art and music rooms in the same area, along with a prospective bus parking area on the north side.
Acting at its regular board meeting on Monday April 25, the Stanley-Boyd Board of Education moved to go forward with concept drawings on two areas of interest with relation to proposed remodeling plans. Motion to approve construction concept design was made by board member Chad Verbeten and seconded by Toni Seidl.
Regarding the rectangle marked ‘1” in the diagram below, hallways would be widened while the art room would closely approximate its current size at just over 1,000 square feet, while music would be centrally located in the elementary area. The hallway would contain a group learning area to the southeast. The classrooms of 900 square feet each would allow for up to 32 kids per room , if needed.
A redesign of current locker room space near the middle school would see it become restrooms, with separate sides for boys and girls with a shared sink area. While only concept drawings at this point and subject to further change, the vote to move forward with drawings will allow LHB Architects of Superior to prepare something for the school board to review in greater detail this fall, with the combined areas as shown below estimated to cost $5.002 million for an initial estimate.
At present the school district has around $5.3 million saved towards such a project, with preference being given to the classroom remodel portion as shown in the first rectangle below, area 2 estimated just over $1 million of the $5.002 million estimate for the two areas.
CESA 10 is administering the project for the district.
