Stanley, WI — The Stanley Historical Society will be the setting for a special community event Sunday, October 26th, as local author Betty Plombon celebrates the release of her latest book, Only in Stanley, Wisconsin, with a book party and signing.
The event will be held from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Stanley Historical Society, 228 Helgerson St., Stanley. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Plombon, hear about her newest work, and purchase signed copies.
The idea for the book party was inspired by Reading Rhythms, a grassroots movement out of New York City, that began with a small group of friends gathering to read quietly together and has since spread to major cities across the globe. The concept is simple: bring the book you’re currently reading, enjoy some silent reading time, and connect with others who share a love of books. Check out their social media presence on Facebook and Instagram. Organizers hope to capture that same low-key, social atmosphere in Stanley.
Adding to the afternoon’s ambiance, local chiropractor and musician Brady Booth will provide live background music. Booth is a familiar name in the local music scene, most recently performing at Early Bird Pub and Grub on October 4. For those who miss him at the book party, he is also scheduled to perform on New Year’s Eve at Reclaimed in Stanley.
The event is being organized by Stanley-Boyd librarian, Katie Burzynski and Stanley-Boyd Elementary teacher, Lia Campbell, who are encouraging readers to dive into fall-inspired titles to spark cozy reading time. Suggested seasonal picks include The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna, Falling Like Leaves by Misty Wilson, and of course, Betty Plombon’s books. The Historical Museum is the perfect setting for a cozy, moody, October reading.
Plombon, well known in the area for her engaging historical storytelling and ties to the community, said she looks forward to connecting with readers face-to-face. “This book is close to my heart, and I’m excited to share it right here at home,” she said.
The book party is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Come and go as you please. Organizers encourage both longtime fans and new readers to attend.
“This is more than just a book signing,” said Lia Campbell, “It’s a celebration of local talent, community, and the joy of reading together.”
