Municipal border issues have come to the fore in Boyd, a man with a warrant fleeing from police into Delmar recently, before reportedly returning to leave the scene, unapprehended.
Taking place on Boundary Road, a line demarcating the boundary between Boyd and Delmar, the incident Jan. 29 involving a child support warrant brings to light the importance of both jurisdiction and communication, as Boyd is served by the Stanley Police Department while Delmar is served by Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
“Stanley and Boyd PD I believe handled that,” Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes said of the matter upon followup.
Stanley Police Chief Lance Weiland shared more from the Stanley-Boyd side.
“My understanding was that the subject had a child support warrant and was not located that day but the next I believe,” Weiland said. “Upon making contact, he had taken care of payment for the warrant that he had previous therefore the warrant had been quashed.”
The quashing of the warrant effectively means the current incident is resolved as to law.
As for a possible next time, communication is key.
