On Monday, February 9, the Boyd and Stanley Lions Clubs met jointly to hear a presentation from District Governor Ed Cerney of Clayton, during his annual club visitation. The gathering took place at the Boyd Legion Hall with Zais Catering providing a delicious meal. Boyd Lion Jeff Zais welcomed the Stanley Lions, guests, the District Governor Ed, and his wife Lisa.
After dinner, District Governor Cerney noted in his presentation that the Lions International goal is one new member each year. Together those new members can create a mighty increase in service in what Lions can accomplish worldwide. He stated that his Theme for the 2025-26 Lions Year is: “Service Today- Brighter Future Tomorrow.” His goal is to see a net gain in membership of 20, across District 27-E1. In closing, he urged attendance at the District Convention that will be held on Friday evening March 27 and Saturday, March 28, at the St. Croix Casino at Danbury.
After his presentation, District Governor Cerney recognized the longevity of members from both clubs. From the Stanley Lions, Norm Christianson was recognized for 45 years of membership. Other Stanley Lions recognized were Wayne Hove for 40 years, Gary Krueger for 35 years, Dan Plombon for 15 years and Jim Gunelson for 10 years. Boyd Lions recognized were Gary Dorn for 45 years, Wade Eslinger for 30 years, and Teresa Isensee for 25 years. Boyd Lions were also lauded for gaining four new members and Laurie Shakal was awarded a Membership Key for sponsoring two new members. Two of the evening’s highlights were Boyd Lions President Sandra Schara receiving a Certificate of Appreciation for her club gaining four new members and the installation of Boyd’s newest member Zoe Meier, by District Governor Cerney. Lion Zoe was sponsored by her grandfather, Lion Jeff Zais.
Prior to adjournment, Boyd member Jeff Zais and Stanley President Laurie Foster presented gifts of money to the District Governor that he will be donating to the Lions projects of his choice.
The next meeting of the Stanley Lions Club will be held on Monday, March 9. The next meeting of the Boyd Lions Club will be on Wednesday, March 11. Both the Boyd and Stanley Lions Clubs welcome new members to help “Service” their communities. Talk to any Lion about membership.
