The Boyd and Stanley Lions Clubs recently teamed up to distribute a booklet entitled, “Taking Diabetes to School,” to Boyd and Stanley Schools and to the Moon Memorial Library in Stanley. The booklets will help students at All Saints St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Boyd, the Boyd Early Learning Center and the Stanley-Boyd Elementary School in Stanley to better understand what diabetes is and what it means to classmates who deal with it daily. The booklet was written by a mother whose son has diabetes and explains its complexities to young students. The booklets were provided to local Lions Clubs through the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. Stanley-Boyd School Nurse Karyn Nitz was delighted to receive the booklets, which she looks forward to using in her helping young students understand the disease during November, which is Diabetes Awareness Month. The booklet offers a sensitive insight into the life of a child with a chronic illness.
