A great crowd was on hand Friday evening, August 15 for the annual Boyd Corn Feed and Street Dance. Starting about 4pm, East Murray Street was closed off from North Adams Street to North Clark Street to set up for the fun. The sweet corn cookers got the water boiling early so there was plenty of corn for everyone to eat. Many comments were heard about how good the corn was! Thanks to Cedric Boettcher of Cadott for having all that corn available, to River Country Co-op for donating the gas for cooking, and to Boyd Catering for the butter, salt and other supplies. The St Joes Food Wagon was on hand with their Philly Steak sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and fries. Warm Kids Wisconsin, a local nonprofit organization, was also on the street selling snow cones. Profits from all their sales go toward providing warm winter wear for area needy children. There was also ice cream available from The Village Haus as well as popcorn from the All Saints Parish PCCW. Wisconsin Fun Factory was on hand with four bouncy houses, including the Fire House Bounce and Slide, the Jungle Toddler Obstacle Course, the Bananza Slide, and the Bounce House and Obstacle Course. Many children were able to run, jump, slide, bounce and have lots of fun. Trinity Vineyard Church was also on hand, giving away numerous items for the children. Tru Touch of Beauty owner Casey Walters provided corn tattoos, keeping with the theme of the night. Also providing lots of entertainment was Kevin’s Balloons from Eau Claire. Kevin was kept busy making swords, air guitars and many other fun balloon designs. Children could also fish for prizes at the fishing pond, which was sponsored by Conley’s Hill House. And keeping everyone entertained throughout the evening was local DJ Tom Larson. Tom is the owner of Reclaimed Tavern and Grill in Stanley, and is very active in the community. The bike give-a-way, always a big hit, had four bikes available. Lucky winners were Conner Reid, Addalyn LeMon, Jonathan Rygiel and Erica Nullinger. Hetch’s Building Supplies donated 2 of the bikes and an anonymous donor provided 2 additional bikes. Hetch’s Building Supplies had also built and donated a new band shell for the live band, Virginia Steel, but unfortunately rain, thunder and lightning made it unsafe for the band to use the new outdoor shell. Instead, the band was able to set up indoors at Aimee’s Double D Saloon, and provided entertainment from 9 to midnight. Aimee’s Double D Saloon, was also the site of the corn hole tournament. Thanks to Mark Moldrem for setting up and running the tournament.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening, although the stormy weather could have held off for a few more hours. Due to lightning in the area, events on the street had to be cut short by about an hour. But from 5pm until the rain came, it seemed everyone was having a great time. The Boyd Chamber would like to thank everyone for coming out to enjoy the fun-filled family event. They would also like to thank all the sponsors for their donations including Northwestern Bank, Hitch’s Building Supplies, Conley’s Hill House, Touch of Beauty, Boyd Catering, and River Country Co-op. Chamber President, Cory Zais, says “it takes a lot of community assistance to make events like this possible, and all the help is very much appreciated!”
