The home conference meet is over, and the results are in. With both the boys and girls placing third overall, Carson Hause won the high jump with 5-10 on Tuesday.
“He is jumping well but will need 6 plus in the tournament coming up,” Coach Seidl said of Hause. Cooper Nichols and Zach Boes both jumped 11-6 to tie for 1st in the pole vault.
“They both are peeking right when we need them to,” Seidl said. Nic Schmelzer had placed 3rd in the 300 hurdles and continued to improve.
“He continues to improve,” Seidl said of Schmelzer.
“We had some other good performances but Fall Creeks numbers and depth was too hard to match,” Seidl said in summary.
Switching over to the girls team, performance, Seidl said the team needed more athletes to fill out its relays.
"We needed more athletes to fill our events and we lacked depth in the sprint relays,” he said. Noting the performance by Maralyn Boettcher placing second in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 100-meter dash, Seidl said Boettcher’s speed had improved.
“Her sprint speed has improved and the senior needs to improve even more at regionals to move on,. He said. In the meantime, Seidl said that Addison Mahr continued to impress the conference, placing third in the low hurdles.
Meanwhile, Leslie Derks had placed third in the 1600 and was completing her Senior year as as a good distance runner. That said, not all was upbeat.
“We did have some good performances on our relays,” Seidl said, then going into detail.
In the 3200-meter relay, the team of Pilgrim, Gustafson, Schesel and Derks were all conference runner up, he said.
“Their time (10:27.25) is good enough to qualify for sectionals,” Seidl said. “The 1600-meter relay team of Boettcher, Pilgrim, Gustafson and Mahr placed 2nd with a time of 4:25.66. They are also fast enough to advance to the Regional. Our two longer relays were the bright spot for the Conference meet. We had some young athletes that contributed very big for us. That’s promising for the future.”
