Climbing the postseason tournament bracket, the Oriole boys varsity score wins against Wautoma and Arcadia, making it to the regional championship. Playing Elk Mound Saturday, March 8 they finished 44-49 against the Mounders.
Orioles Head Boys Basketball Coach Dakota Nichols shared more after the game.
“Im proud of the way we battled with Elk Mound,” Nichols said. “That was a big time game in a packed gym, and our guys held their composure and executed plays. I have to give credit to Elk Mound, they hit some tough shots and took care of the ball only having 7 turnovers to our 10. They also knocked in free throws at the end to hold us off.
“A big thank you to our seniors for the commitment to our program. This is a very special group that always put the team first. It was an honor to be their coach, and I know they will be very successful in the future. “
“Looking ahead, we will be returning our leading scorer (Charlie Hoel- 16.4ppg), our leading rebounder (Josiah Demske- 9.2/game), and returning five guys that either started or played valuable minutes this season. We are excited for what’s to come, but they know we have to work hard to get to where we want to be.”
Sharing team statistics, Nichols said the leading scorers were Charlie Hoel with 16.4 points per game, Logan Gray with 12.3, and Brenner Myers with 8.6 points
Leading rebounders were Josiah Demske with 9.2 rebounds per game, Charlie Hoel with 8.6, and Carter Isenberger with 4.3.
Leading assists for the Orioles were Logan Gray with 3.8 assists per game, Jackson Gindt with 2.3 and Carter Isenberger with 2.7.
