Effective self defeat, followed with an imcomplete recovery days later. Such is the report from the week just past for Orioles boys varsity basketball, which saw the Orioles fall 71-31 to Elk Mound followed with a 59-56 finish against Neillsville which saw the Warriors squeak out a win.
The results along with Wausau put Stanley- Boyd at 0-3 overall so far for the season, with coach Dakota Nichols reflecting on the outcome after the game.
“I think our nerves got the best of us in our first home game of the season,” he said of Elk Mound. “The guys were making a lot of mental errors and we beat ourselves, especially in the first half. Then against Neilsville, I saw a completely different team. We played with a lot of energy and were doing the little things. We still have some things to clean up, but I’m really liking the progress we’ve made so far. It’s early in the season, with a young team that has played a very tough non-conference schedule. I’m confident we will turn things around.”
The Orioles next face off with St. Croix Central in an away game Thursday, Dec. 8, with action starting at 7 p.m.
