Coming off sectionals Stanley-Boyd has five state qualifiers, with two alternates.
Madden Mahr is headed to state in the 200-meter dash (22.47) and 4x200 meter relay (1:29.21). Also headed to state in the 4x200 meter really are Rudy Kletsch, Carson Hodowanic, and Cole Brenner, with alternates being Jake LaGrander and Caleb Westrom. in the 4x200 meter relay. Senior Lucas Walker took fourth in the 1600 meter run (4:27.84) at Colby) to qualify for La Crosse as well. Orioles head track coach Robert Seidl shared his thoughts on the state qualifiers.
But while not on their way to state, the girls relay team beat their record set earlier this month, finishing the 4 x 200 relay with a time of 1:49.8. Orioles head track coach Robert Seidl shared thoughts as the season draws to a close.
“The girls team ran very close to their expected seed times and distances,” he said. “The best chance of making it through to State was the 4x200 meter relay. They ran a personal record of 1:49.80, which broke the record they set at regionals.”
As for the boys, Seidl said that, “The boys team also ran close to expected times. We were hoping to get a few more through in the sprints and jumps but we were a little off. Madden Mahr qualified in the 200 meter dash. He will have a good chance medaling at state. Lucas Walker broke his best time(4:27.84) in the 1600m run. The 1600 is a tough distance event and he will have to improve again by several seconds to medal. He is less than 3 seconds off the school record time which is 4:25.1, set by Zach Vircks in 2003.”
“Our 4x200 meter relay team of Kletsch, Hodowanic, Mahr and Brenner ran an exceptional race at the Colby sectional. If they run as well or better at next week, they will have a great chance to medal. They also broke the school record they set at regionals.”
Starting Thursday, May 30 and running through Saturday, June 1, the WIAA State Track Meet is at La Crosse. Tickets must be purchased online at the wiaawi website.
