Boys win Friday home meet, girls take third

"We had a major delay in the meet when our timing system went down.  Combined with the rain, that made for a long night,” Coach Bob Seidl said of last Friday’s meet at Oriole Park. "We decided to go ahead with the meet in spite of the rain.  We didn't anticipate the weather being as foul as it was.  As a result, we did n't expect very many PR's.  But we had a few.” With the Oriole boys winning the meet and girls placing third, Coach Bob Seidl shard more on each after the results were in.

"Simon Polman ran his best time in the 200 M dash (23.50, on his way to first place,” Seidl said. “Lucas Walker had his best time in the 800 meter run (2:05.85) to take place.  That was a really good time coming off an illness. " He also improved in the 1600 with a time of  4:42.68 to place 2nd."

Seidl also noted Madden Mahr for a long jump of 18 feet 6 inches.

“We are trying to improve in the jumps now that the temperatures are getting warmer,” Seidl said. “We will need good performances in the jumps”.

Closing out the boys review for track and field at Oriole Park Friday, Robert Poole made a Discus shot of 123 feet 11 and a half inches, “while the boys 4x  1 relay team improved their their time to  “The boys 4x1 team of Lagrander, Mahr, Hodowonic and Polman improved their time to 45.34,” Seidl said. “The school record is 44.79.  They will have a few more chances in the coming weeks."       

With regard to the girls performance at Friday’s meet, Coach Seidl had the following to share.

"Adyson Gustafson improved to 14.0 flat in the 100 m dash,” he said. “She has been running well and I can see her times improving as she approaches her Junior year."

Also coming in for mention was Elena Trevino, who took a time of 2:54.25 in the 800 meter dash. Janelle Schesel captured first with a time of 2:41.07, her best this year.

"Trevino also improved a second in the 1600 meter run (6:21.60), for 4th place,” Seidl said.

Closing out the girls track update, Alexa Liszewski made a time of 15:05.21 in the 3200 meter run, taking second place, while Lula Chwala earned a medal for third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of  17.63. Emily Kletch improved in the shot put to throw 23 feet five inches and the discus, taking a distance of 60 feet six inches from Friday’s meet.

"The girls 4x4 of Pilgrim, Gustafson, Mahr and Schesel, ran their best time of the year (4:30.63) to earn second place medals,” Seidl said, closing out the update.   

With days to prepare for the conference meet, the season isn’t over yet.
