Bridge near campground being spruced up by anonymous donor

Fall may be in the air but for the Chapman Park Bridge near the campground, Spring cleaning has begun. The second Chapman Park Bridge located near the Campground will soon get an overhaul. According to the plaque on the bridge, it was donated in 1990 in memory of Kenneth Ebben. An anonymous donor has offered to sandblast and paint the old bridge and put new decking on it and Westaby Trucking agreed to remove the bridge and haul it at no cost.

Public Works Director John Hoel discussed the need to install cement where the railroad ties are to give the bridge more stability and asked the Council for funds to obtain the cement and needed supplies. As Mayor Al Haas mentioned that it shouldn’t take too much money, Hoel nodded his agreement. Council member Laurie Foster motioned to allow for funds for the cement for the bridge not to exceed $2,000 and with Council member Holly Kitchell absent, the Council unanimously approved the motion.

Police Department

Stanley Police Chief Lance Weiland introduced new hire Officer Melissa McDonough to the Council at the Monday night meeting. Officer McDonough will mainly be working in the Village of Boyd once she completes her field training.

Pine Street

Brian Lampert with Ayres Associates addressed the Council with an update on the Pine Street project as the work is nearing completion. He asked for an increase of $5,000 in budget funds but mentioned that he expects the city to receive money back. The completion date is projected for September 30th with October 15th as the final day for payment. The Council unanimously approved the $5,000 Pine Street extension contract amendment.

As Lampert began to discuss the water system study update, Council member Mike Henke asked if there was still a grant application due in October that was being applied for, Lampert appeared confused and said he wasn’t aware of any grant applications. After Henke produced the documentation referencing that grants were to be applied for in October from the contract, Lampert agreed to look into it.

“We have to get on this,” Mayor Haas informed Lampert regarding the grant applications.

Henke commented, “You are six months behind.”

Public Works Department

John Hoel recommended to the Council that the 2014 Ford Super Duty truck in the Streets Department be repaired instead of purchasing a new truck. He informed the Council that after talking to Courtesy Auto Ford, they offered a low trade in value for the Ford truck, so it didn’t make sense to trade it in as it was worth more to the City. He commented that the truck “should be good for a few more years.”

The Super Duty truck is beginning to show signs of rust, so Hoel recommended getting that repaired and added that most auto body shops don’t like to handle rust repair anymore. Hoel stated that Breezy Acres on County Rd X offered a bid proposal of $6,533.56 to repair the rust along with a few other repairs that the truck needed. The Council agreed with Hoel and approved the motion to have the 2014 Ford Super Duty truck to be taken to Breezy Acres for the repairs at the price of $6,533.56.
