Cadott raises its base sewer rate from $7.80 to $16

The base sewer rate in Cadott has been raised from $7.80 to $16 on the recommendation of the villages auditors. +++ The Cadott Village Board approved a contract that will result in Cedar Corp. submitting an application for a grant from the safe drinking water loan program. The funding would be used to replace up to 30 lead and galvanized water pipes from the street curb to home water meters. The funds are part of a $63 million program that is available on a first come first serve basis. +++ Cory Wojciuch has opened a storefront for her business Cory’s Carpets. The store features washable homemade carpets, as well as handmade cards, dish cloths, potholders and decor. +++ On Earth Day, Lake Holcombe School turned out in full force to pick up trash around the town. Afterwards, Lake Holcombe Cafe treated the youth and teachers to snacks, water and a place to rest before they returned to school. +++ The Silver Bear Store in Holcombe is closing with up to 75% off all merchandise.

On Saturday, May 1, the 2021 Thorp Prom was held at Munson Bridge Winery, with the theme Rustic Romance. King Ryan Raether and Queen Elena Ciolkosz reigned over the junior prom. +++ Thorp District Administrator Paul Blanford has resigned, with no reason given in the Thorp newspaper. The School Board will be hiring the Wisconsin Association of School Boards to assist with hiring a new district administrator. +++ Pat Nowak, among the loyalist members of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary, is asking the public to support poppy sales, which is a way of saying thank you to all those men and woman who gave their lives so that we have the freedoms we possess today. +++ Arbor Day was celebrated at Oakbrook Health and Rehab with Mason May, administrator and resident Ron doing the honors of planting a Dwarf Korean Lilac tree. +++ Thorp second graders celebrated May Day by making may baskets and delivering them.

Bloomer Advance

Bloomer High School has 57 students involved in their Youth Apprenticeship program. High school students are afforded an opportunity to be involved in a one-year or two-year Youth Apprenticeship, while working towards their high school diploma. There are 11 different career program areas available, which give students an opportunity to work in a field they are interested in prior to starting their post secondary education, as well as giving employers exposure to possible future employees. +++ The Bloomer Ambulance answered 651 calls in 2020. The ambulance services average time from dispatch to arrival was 9 minutes and the average time on the scene was 16 minutes. 56% of the calls were to patients over age 60, 60.13% were to homes or apartments and 13.9% of the calls were to Assistant Living or Nursing Home facilities.

O-W Enterprise The Owen City Council established Saturday, May 15, as a Community Clean-up Day. The city will pay to have a dumpster available from Express Disposal for garbage, another dumpster for scrap metal, with fees deducted from the value of the scrap collected, and Withee Tire will accept tires at a cost of $2.50 to $3.00 per tire. +++ The Owen City Council approved the Owen -Withee Police Department having the O-W High School Art Department do a public safety mural on a wall in the PD. +++ The Owen-Withee High School junior prom was held in the high school gym – one of the few area schools to hold the spring event in their high school.

The Abbotsford City Council is taking another look at their limited ordinance governing chickens in the city. Currently only two chickens are allowed. An expanded ordinance would allow more types of poultry and numbers allowed would be related to size of properties. However, no roosters over the age of four months would be allowed. +++ Colby students in grades pre-kindergarten through third grade brought in 146 boxes of cereal to be donated to the school’s Weekend Backpack Program, which provides extra meals to families in need. The boxes were set up like dominoes in the hallway and the students watched as the long line of boxes fell over. +++A rental house in Abbotsford has been declared a health hazard and an order to raze it has been issued. The owner had previously taken out a permit to raze it and water was shut off last February. A tenant still remains in the house and the police are trying to find a new home for the person.

The porch of the Woodland Hotel, in downtown Owen, has two new additions – a memorial bench donated by the Lindner family in memory of Eileen Hodnett Lindner and a small free library that it filled with books for a free book exchange. Eileen spent her last several years of life living at the hotel. +++ Owen- Withee area native Freida Thorson celebrated her 100th birthday with her children and grandchildren on Sunday, May 2. She is a resident of Riverside Assisted Living Facility in Neillsville. (One of her sons is Konrad Thorson of Stanley.) Tri-County News – Area Times

The Fall Creek Area Fire District recently received a generous donation from Nels Gunderson Chevrolet in Osseo. They are using the funds to purchase four new portable scene lights, as well as a battery charger for them.

With over 1,300 members, Trempealeau County’s Liberty Alliance is organized to assure adherence to the Constitution and the rights of individuals. They intend to influence government at all levels by getting elected to positions on city councils, the county board and school boards.

The Cochrane-Fountain City High School hosted its 2021 Prom – “Mardi Gras Masquerade.” And the court all looked great even with their masks! +++ The Eleva Broiler Fest is planning for a big return in 2021. The 63rd annual festival will have a full schedule of events. +++ The Mondovi School Board approved two insurance contracts at their April meeting. Health insurance will again be provided by WEA Insurance, with a 5 percent raise in premiums and Dental Dental will provide dental insurance at the same rate as last year.
