Failure to stop at side road intersection the cause
A crash Nov. 1 at 9:17 p.m. in the town of Wheaton resulted in both drivers being transported to the hospital with serious but nonlife threatening injuries. The crash which took place at the intersec- tion of County Trunk M and 29 resulted in both drivers, 63-year-old Randy L. Schulner and 72-year-old Geoffrey A. Breault needing to be extricated from their vehicles.
According to physical evidence at the scene, the two-vehicle crash was caused when a pickup truck southbound on County Trunk M failed to stop and yield to the semi, traveling westbound on High- way 29. Impact took place in the left westbound lane of Highway 29, with responding agencies including the Wheaton First Respond ers and Fire Department, Chippewa and Dunn County Sheriff’s Of- fices, Eau Claire Ambulance, Mayo helicopter, and the Chippewa County Highway Department.
A total of 29 tons of granular material for roofing shingles was spilled as a result of the accident, with cleanup taking place in the days following the crash.
