Winter is coming, and with that in view, we have a reminder: Winter parking starts in Stanley and Boyd on Nov. 15.

Stanley Police Chief Lance Weiland shared more detail in the bimonthly chief’s report.

“Overnight parking restrictions will go into effect November 15 in both the City of Stanley and Village of Boyd,” he wrote. “If we have not received snow by that time, that will be stretched out accordingly to accommodate on street parking while the weather allows for such. This is the same procedure we have used for years.”

Also in Weiland’s report is a computer purchase.

“The Village of Boyd recently approved a purchase of a laptop computer for their squad, along with the corresponding docking station and power supply,” he wrote. “This purchase was necessary to accommodate the need for Windows 11 operating system, which the current equipment could not support.”

In other police updates, Weiland shared that Officer Andrew Straszkowski had completed one full year with the department, Weiland recommending that Straszkowski be removed from his probationary status as a city employee. Weiland also reported that police department staff that needed to use the new receipting software had been working on familiarizing themselves with the new program and that it had been implemented for approximately two weeks.

As for upcoming training, Weiland reported that there was  free multiple casualty incident response training in Cornell on January 31 that he was looking to get police staff signed up for, with staff already signed up for pursuit training at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire on Nov. 10. Pursuit training is a requirement every two years for officers to retain their law enforcement certification in the state.

As for fire department news, Stanley Fire Chief Ron Patten reported mostly normal office work, with hose testing done and work with a new rescue boat. Planned work at Stanley Fire was said to include normal office work and truck checks for the month, monthly training planned as well.

As for items concerning the council, Patten wrote that Martino’s Pizza and Prevention had been a success.

“Martino’s Pizza and Prevention was a huge success again,” he wrote. With final numbers still out the annual event had raised over $8,500 towards fire department needs.

The department had been busy on fire calls as well. Patten reported two structure fires in the past two weeks, one ambulance assist for a motorcycle accident, two mutual aid calls with Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire, eight EMS calls, and three fire inspections
