City budget hearing planned for Nov. 17

The City of Stanley will hold a public budget hearing Monday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room, located at 343 South Broadway in Stanley.
Included in this year’s proposed 2026 city budget are $2,787,989 in revenues, matched to a like amount in expenditures. The budget as proposed represents an 8.2 percent decrease from last year’s budget.
As for city revenues, the budget as proposed includes $925,429 for taxes (down two percent), $1,468,359 in intergovernmental revenues (payments from other governments), $31,760 in licenses and permits (a drop of 4.6 percent), and $11,500 in fines, forfeitures, and other penalties, down from last year as well.
Also in revenues are $81,400 in public charges for services (down 4.8 percent), $84,000 in intergovernmental charges for services (invoices to other governments), and $185,541 in miscellaneous general revenue (down 25.8 percent).
On the expense side of the ledger meanwhile are $788,975 for general government (an increase of 7.7 percent), and $804,514 for public safety (a decrease of 14.9 percent). The police department purchased a squad car in 2025, which increased expenditures last year.
Also in expenditures, meanwhile are $413,100 for public works (an increase of 8.8 percent), $18,450 for health and human services (an increase of 17.1 percent), $142,000 for culture, recreation, and education (up 18.5 percent), $12,650 for conservation and development (up 4.1 percent), $284,300 for outlay/other public services (down 44.9 percent), $218,000 for debt service (up 3.1 percent), and $106,000 in other financing, representing the same figure as previous.
Once again, the city budget hearing for the proposed 2026 city budget is Monday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room at 353 South Broadway in Stanley.
