The Friends of the Black River of Clark County are placing 17 signs, that provide directions, safety tips or interesting facts, at boat landings along the River and at Lake Arbutus. +++ The value of a full-time sub was evident to the Greenwood School Board this school year. Subsequently, they have voted to continue the position.

Tri-County News – Area Times

An Augusta Historical Society has been formed and its first project is obtaining a State Historical Marker for the dam that forms Lake Eau Claire. The current dam was constructed in the 1930’s, as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) Project, which was an effort to move America out of the depths of the Great Depression.

+++ The Easter bunny was busy in the Tri-County area on Easter weekend. He was in Keller Park in Fall Creek celebrating with children, he was at an Easter pancake breakfast in Strum and at Stoddard Park in Osseo greeting kids and handing out goodies. +++ The Osseo- Fairchild High School students did their school play virtual – on line this year. Since they were not able to perform last year due to the pandemic, this year’s performance was special.

Trempealeau County Times

Those planning on developing the Gaza Mine as a frac sand operation will have to provide more information about a proposed reclamation bond before the Independence city council will allow any digging. The council is looking for more information on the Florida based guarantor of $500,000 available to restore the mine property after mining ends. +++ The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department K9 Luke assisted in locating $20,000 worth of cocaine during a recent traffic stop. Four Seasons Park in Independence will be having new playground equipment and the local Girl Scout Troop has pledged to help pay for it. This year’s cookie sale proceeds will go towards the purchase and the Girl Scouts will engage in fundraising with other community groups to raise the rest.

The annual Miss Mondovi Pageant, forced to be canceled last year by COVID-19, is back this year and was held on Sunday, April 11. Six candidates participated in the pageant that was open to participants families only. The event was live streamed for others to watch. +++ David Schmidt is the Interim Mondovi City Administrator. He was the city administrator of Wabasha, MN for 11 years and most recently spent three years as the administrator and economic development consultant for Buffalo county. His main goal, in the next three months, is to find a replacement administrator for Mondovi.
