Meeting on Thursday, April 17, twenty-one members and guests of the Stanley High School, Class of 1960, met at Debbie’s on Broadway. At 11:30 a.m., Class President Dave Jankoski greeted the gathering and thanked everyone for attending. Prior to lunch being served, Jankoski also thanked Diane Herrick Meyer for handling registration for the meeting and Carole Shock for her keeping the scrapbook current. He noted the presence of the classes’ three scrapbooks, that were available for the looking, as they contain many treasured memories of the classes feats. Of special note was the class taking first place in their freshman year of the all major homecoming events – chalk board drawing, downtown window decoration and the parade float. The game was against Gilman and the class used as their theme, “Wash’em, Rinse’em and Hang’em Out To Dry.” Stanley won the homecoming game 7-0. It was also the year that Stanley beat Cadott 3-0, when Cy “automatic” Thompson, kicked a 26 yard field goal that split the uprights with four seconds remaining in the game. The annual that year referred to the games finish as “Truly, one of the more dramatic finishes in any football game.” Also of note, the Cadott football coach pulled his team off the field with only four seconds remaining on the clock.
After the meal, that included a trip to the salad bar and a plated meal of tenderloin tips with gravy over mashed potato, or broasted chicken, the class roll call took place with members present reporting updates on their current life events, reports on deceased members and those not present being reported on by those who have kept in contact with them. Delores Wildenberg Hahn was introduced as a special guest as she had started school with some of the class members but finished a year earlier.
Before dismissal, the group acknowledged the great food and service provided by Debbie’s on Broadway and applauded the cook and server. It was announced that the All School Reunion this year will take place on Saturday, October 4 and that the Class of 1960 will again plan to gather on the Thursday, April 16, 2026 for their 66th Anniversary. Before and following the meal, there was ample time for visiting with classmate
