Roads and their maintenance cost money as a main town expense. To that end, the Colburn town board approved a $52,044 levy for 2021, with road expenditures of $193,769.22 and a total budget of $271,081.22, the levy being just one source of town revenue.
But while non-essential travel may be getting discouraged by the health department of late, such provisions need not mean one be uninformed about goings on within their local town government, or elsewhere. Case in point: the Town of Colburn virtual information hub at www.colburntown.com is now updated for the month of November, with the meeting minutes stretching back to April of 2018 and telling a story, the most recent meeting date linked at the bottom of the page. Detailed for November in the minutes, the Town of Colburn regular monthly meeting was held November 10 at the Town hall, with all board members in attendance. Upon a motion by supervisor Kiel Morello seconded by supervisor Steve Sime, the minutes for the regular October town board meeting were approved. Following upon this, treasurer Dana Hartzell gave the town treasurer’s report, with $63,415.54 in the AbbyBank CD for the town and $152,564.67 in the Forward Financial Checking account.
There was no public comment.
In licenses and permits, meanwhile, the board approved an operator’s license for Joanne Haven, payment having been received. Supervisor Morello made the motion to approve the operator’s license while Sime motioned to accept payment, with the motion carrying. Following upon operator’s licenses, it was into the 2021 budget.
As far as the Coburn town levy is concerned, Colburn township residents are being asked to contribute to a $52,044 town levy for needed maintenance to the town roads, with the levy and two subsequent motions for $193,769.22 in road expenditures and $271,081.22 in the total budget being made by Morello and seconded by Sime. All three motions related to the budget carried.
Moving from the 2021 budget details to the road work update and discussion, town officials were made aware at the November meeting that the Grader had “a leak around a seal, the estimated cost being from $1200 to $1500. Presently described as “workable,” the Grader repairs would wait until the repair firm could get to it, in December. It was decided that chairman Brad Hompe would put an ad in the Shopper for backup plow driver.
The next meeting was set for December 1, with a motion by Morello, seconded by Sime to adjourn the meeting, the motion carrying upon a voice vote.
Colburn town meetings are generally held the first Tuesday of the month.
