The local community turned out to Lotz Park in Boyd Saturday, Sept. 30 to help Boyd-Edson-Delmar Firefighter and ambulance worker Scott Knez, now awaiting a heart and liver transplant in Madison.

A member of Boyd-Edson-Delmar fire for 27 years, Knez, 51, has spent six weeks at UW-Madison. He was a truck driver before having to quit for health reasons.

Starting at 11 a.m., the fundraiser benefit was a success.

“I know it was a real good turn out,” Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Chief Ron Patten said as he shared that the organizers were still tallying how much the benefit had raised.

With fellow firefighters staffing the concession stand with plates of BBQ and more, a basket raffle, silent auction, and bake sale were held in the large pavilion, where volunteers mingled  with benefit attendees.

Items for the bake sale included staples like pumpkin pie and chocolate chip cookies, as well as chocolate wafers with creme in the middle.

A bounce house was on site for the kids to enjoy, while the silent auction had many items, from swivel rockers and bean bag (corn hole) boards, all the way to a deer blind.

Attendees could also get a health screening at the on-site ambulance. A big thank you to all!
